January 5, 2013: Secret post (four? I think?)
Well, here I sit, a new year and still blessed enough to call myself an expecting mom! We're 17 and a half weeks pregnant and everything thus far is going very well. We had our most recently appointment with the MFM specialist yesterday afternoon. Baby girl is thriving! No signs of anything "bad". She is growing as expected for her gestational age, and while they won't measure it comprehensively until around 24 weeks, she has a beautiful amniotic-filled surrounding. And she is just beautiful, with a cute little nose just like her brother's.
Each appointment comes with great anxiety leading up to it. But once that ultrasound wand is placed on my belly and I first see all of that amniotic fluid and second see that little heart rapidly beating away, my worries melt away and I get to enjoy the rest of the appointment and mostly enjoy the couple of weeks until the next appointment. We're going for appointments about every two weeks between the two office (every 4 weeks at each, staggered). It's a lot of appointments.
At this appointment, the ultrasound tech and Dr. B did a full assessment of her anatomy, including bones and organs (though we'll have her heart looked at in more depth in four weeks). Everything is just perfect. Baby girl is even practicing her breathing, which is a great sign for lung development which kicks into early stages next week.
This week, we shared the news of Baby Clark with a few more friends and also my close co-workers. It creates a lot of vulnerability to share this news more widely. But I know I've been showing to some degree for the past few weeks (as evidenced below), so it was time to let them know it wasn't just too many Christmas cookies creating my expanding waistline. I'm sure people will have mixed feelings about our expanding family, mostly they will be supportive I hope.
Here I am at 17 weeks. I had to get out my maternity clothes a couple of weeks ago. That box that was stored away in our walk-in closet saying "I'm here, not sure if you'll need me, but I'm here". I'm glad I got to open that box again.
And some updated ultrasound photos.
